I have mixed feelings about Palermo

From one side, there is so much trash everywhere- it difficult to breath, the smell is just appalling. But then, people of Palermo were very very nice, with big hearts. And the food was great.
I can only say one thing- local people deserve a better life and cleaner streets. My heart goes to them!

It 's simple: our political class, the managers of our companies squander public money to private interests. So the company of the garbage collection (called AMIA) is bankrupt and has no money to pay the salaries of dustmen, who do not perform their service because they do not take a salary for several months. Our first mayor, Diego Cammarata, in office for eight years, caused the failure of an entire city, but in Italy no one pays for his faults!!!

@cryboy I thought it was because garbage removals are controlled by someone in who's interest it is to keep the city under control this way.. like, trash hasn't been removed, inhabitants complain, then government has to hire some expensive private company to clear it out...
( I am reading too much, I know:)))
