Fredriksberg Paper Mill

The 22nd June 1972 the Paper Mill shut down its business for good. Since the 1950´s they have struggled against more modern paper industries over the world and even domestic to survive. There was plans on investing in new machines but the water asset was bad, amongst many other things, and the owners decided to invest somewhere else.

Today it is occupied by birds that find it comfy in the tropical environment created by old sulphite that are slowly comming out from all the old barrels that where forgotten. The floors are covered in moss and the paint on the walls is slowly fading away. On some of the walls, you can read political statements.

The municipality of Ludvika tryed to make more investors to invest in the area but had no luck. The old days when Fredriksberg was one of the biggest industries in the western part of Dalarna where long gone. When industries dies even the population tend to move where they can find some job. The greatest export we have in Sweden today is the tourism industry. The tourism industry in Dalarna will generate 2200 new jobs the following ten years.
