The small fishing village of El Cotillo, in the north-west of Fuerteventura, looks a bit sleazy at first sight. Indeed, it seems that the clocks run more slowly here. That’s why I felt in love with the tiny place. Here, you can enjoy the local idyll and tranquility far away from the more spots known to tourists such as Corralejo. Stroll around the village and find yourself a comfortable rest in a café or restaurants which offer some typical culinary delights from the Canary Islands. From the nearby Castillo del Tostón, an old defense tower, you have a wonderful view of the steep coast. The natural beaches around El Cotillo have high potential: flat lagoons with white sand in the North and rough cliffs with golden yellow sand in the South. Furthermore, some beaches receive bigger swells so it is a true paradise for surfers with an established surf scene. Even though tourism slowly grows, I hope El Cotillo will last to be the calm village.
