@brine I would have loved to have seen it then. I worked in Greenpoint for 5 years. When I left NYC in 2018 that neighborhood had changed quite a bit (and in my opinion, not for the better). A lot of condos went up and with them a different kind of resident moved in.
@bonniwarbler My last apartment on India Street was $650 a month, the neighborhood had a total ethic feel and even the Korean vegetable stand person learned Polish to interact ... I am ethnically Polish, but never learned the language but by osmosis did understand some ... I miss the local hardware store that you could describe something and they would have it ... I miss people knowing my comings and goings and being nice ... You can never go home again and I know I can never afford to live there again!!! Part of the sad reality of growing up and the fact that neighborhoods change ... I bought a house in NJ in 1994, I was the 3rd person to own it, all of us came from Greenpoint!!!
@brine I know India well. I worked at a restaurant at Franklin and Green. When you lived there it was probably an apartment. I lived in Clinton Hill which may have been technically bed-stuy in the 90's. I miss the bodegas and how friendly people are. The Ginkgos. The bridges. I live in Oregon now and it's lovely in a different way. I missed nature so I traded sky scrapers for really tall trees. New York feels like home though and I can't wait to get back. I lived in Jersey City Heights for a year and worked in Newark so I know bits of Jersey as well. I liked it and regret having never made it to the shore.
@bonniwarbler I went to Pratt in the late 70s, so I lived in the bed-sty/Clinton Hill area ...I went back the the area a few years ago and barely recognized it!!!
