Sledding in Cambridge

One of my early sled rides with five of the team during which I was able to sit in the front, enjoy my thermos of hot tea and take some pics.

What is a typical team size?

The local Inuit mushers would have quite a few more dogs pulling their heavier wooden sleds, probably around 10 or more depending on the load and distance they were travelling I had a couple stand-up "southern" sleds which were much lighter (and comfortable) so I did not need to use as many dogs and I just went for short "day trips". Note that in the Canadian Arctic they use a fan hitch setup compared to the tandem style (2 dogs side by side) that is used in places like Alaska due to the fact that there are trees in those locales, unlike the tundra. I prefer the fan because then the dogs can choose who they are most comfortable to be close to when they pull.

Amazing ! I just learned the difference between tandem and fan, I really like the fan. :-D

@ixe I think the dogs like the fan too because they have more freedom. However, tandem probably allows for greater speed as that is the format they use in all the famous endurance races (Iditarod, Yukon Quest). However, another plus of the fan format is that I think it is quicker to get the dogs all hitched up. Thanks for the comment!
