Vondel Park on Queen's Day 2012

Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s best-known city park, attracting more than 10 million visitors a year.

Designated with ‘national monument’ status, the park opened in 1865. It was named after Joost van den Vondel, a 17th century Dutch writer and playwright. A statue of him (right side of photo) sits on a plinth overlooking the park’s green surroundings.
