Dam Square early on Queen's Day 2012

Dam Square early in the morning on Queen’s Day. A temporary ferris wheel on the square catches the first rays of sunrise; with the Royal Palace located just behind it in this photo. This square is where a dam was once built on the Amstel River during the 13th century. This gave rise to the origin of the city’s name ‘Amsterdam’.
