Deoksugung Palace is one of the famous palaces in Seoul and is centrally located a street across the city hall and the ice-skating rink. The spacious compound of the palace houses wonderfully preserved and restored structures that depict the lifestyle of the Korean royalty during their reign over the Korean peninsula. There is a museum inside the compound which at the time of our visit displays vintage photographs of Korea. By the time fangcarpenter and I were to leave the palace, we chanced upon the ritual of the changing of the guards. Actors in military regalia performed the rite before a huge crowd of audience - mostly tourists and local passersby.
