DevilBurner - my former army commander

DevilBurner is almost precise surname translation. He was a senior officer in headquarters of frontier guards troop (at Finnish-Russian border) - where I myself was drafted as a soldier. We met about 2002. Despite his aversion to headquarters paperwork :) he was quite thoughtful and charismatic and naturally changed my mind about military men in general. One of his phrases, which impressed me a lot, was "That's easy to love your country when this country is strong, wealth and powerful. But the real feat is to love your country during hard times, when others may prefer to leave it." He is retired now and I introduced him to inline-skating - here we are at some run around. #35mm #portrait #officer #army #military #blackandwhite

Nice portrait, and he is a wise man.

In the US now it is very difficult to love your country, especially when it is being led by those who want to transform it and take away our freedoms.

You have the ability to make subjects appear at ease in front of your lens, nice portraits.

@paulmgarger thanks for your kind words :) meanwhile it hits me, about US, so to say! I have some curiosity to US history - a kind of country shaped out by Pilgrims, Settlers, Founding Fathers - very unusual event in world history, a kind of Roman Empire of modern times. Forge of the world technical progress for sure - this was recognized even in Soviet times when US was seen as rival! It is bit heartbreaking to see current "inner frictions" there... but well, I hope people there shall overcome this situation by and by - anyway there is a great concentration of decent and clever people - a kind of social heritage :)

@rodiongork hello. Yes, the US is a most unique place. Set up by those who fought and won their religious freedom from England, and in their wisdom they wrote a constitution protecting the freedom of citizens from the government. There were problems along the way, including slavery, but freedom won in this matter, the constitution was amended and again citizens were protected from the government. Now there is an elite class of politicians who have been in power for too long, there is widespread corruption among them and they are wanting to control our lives, taking away our freedoms while maintaining their power. Their corruption is obvious, they have spent us deep into debt and the country is on the verge of a major correction. There are many who will fight for our freedoms and we will see which direction the country goes.
