Convenience Shop

Convenience shops like these are dying out in Korea, but they were ubiquitous when I moved there in 2005. I have a soft spot for them, because I associate them with how my exboyfriend and I first got together. We had gone on a day trip to a museum, and as we were making our way back to the subway, we stopped at one of these little ma and pa convenience shops. There was an ajeosshi inside drinking dongdongju all by himself. He made us sit down, fed us dongdongju for hours, and talked about baseball and "Bushy President" with my boyfriend (my ex was American). We weren't officially a couple at that point, but by the end of the afternoon, we were slightly inebriated and definitely a couple. Sure, we fought a lot, but I also loved him a lot, and these types of convenience shops always remind me of that afternoon.
