Hummingbird Mommie on Her Nest 2009/23/5 (Once in a Lifetime Shot)

Macro photo through the window screen at my flat in Tujunga, in the middle of the bottle brush tree. The photo was taken with the Beseler Topcon Super D with an old f/5.6 200mm APO-Topcor, wide open at 1/60 sec, dimly lit in the middle of the tree. She looked toward the lens, and then, instead of flying away, posed with her raggedy side facing away. It almost looked purposeful. I focused on the sparkle in her eye. She had 5 tiny eggs. She raised 2 chicks to fly away. The first 2 chicks that hatch, kick the other 3 eggs out of the nest. Nature is ruthless.
