Kodak Ektachrome 64T: The Night Bird

I found a pack of this gorgeous film in my photography teacher’s classroom. It turned out to be a great find! Why? Find out more after the jump :)

I was lucky enough to find a stash of three rolls of this expired Ektachrome 64T, stowed away in an old cupboard. To my delight, I found that this film was nine years expired! That weekend, I decided to have a go.

I was sleeping over at a friend’s house and we wanted to dress up and shoot. Even though it was ISO 64, I decided that my flash would be bright enough (shooting with my Canon EOS Elan II SLR). And so it was!

This film renders a blueish green tint when cross processed. The contrast is quite high, but can be quite fun when shooting at night time :) I call it the Night Bird because it gives a creepy effect, and shoots beautifully in the dark!

Blue is my favorite color, so when I receive x-pro’d photos with bright shades of blue, I am a happy camper. Needless to say, I am in love with this film. The only negative that I see it the slight green tinge on skin that makes a subject look a little sickly.

I didn’t have many photos left in the roll the next day when I went to the beach. But from the results, this film does quite well in the day time too!

The colors in this film vary quite a bit, so it’s hard to know what you’ll get back from the lab when you cross process it. But then again, isn’t that the best part about shooting film? ;) I suggest that you all should hunt down a roll or two of this online and see for yourself!

So keep shooting, and remember; expect the unexpected!
