Spinning along Malaysia Federal Route 3

5

I love to travel. Although I am Malaysian, I still discover a lot of interesting places in Malaysia that I’ve never visited before. For this holiday, I chose to drive on Malaysia Federal Route 3.

Malaysia Federal Route 3 is the main road on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It connects Rantau Panjang in Kelantan to Johor Bahru in Johor. I didn’t drive from end to end; I just started in Kuantan, the place I’m staying in until Setiu in Terengganu.

Along the long road in the east coast, beautiful beaches and islands caught my eyes. Beautiful ‘kampung’ (it means village in Malay), is another great attraction. I expected that the driving session would take about 3.5 hours but the actual drive was even longer as it I took 6 hours just because I often stopped to enjoy the amazing scenery.

Kampung Sungai Ular is a small village in Pahang. Some of the villagers work as fishermen with small fishing boats. It has a nice beach and a small island called, Pulau Sungai Ular.

Next is the famous Cherating. It is one of the tourist spots in Pahang. A lot of accommodations can be found here. At the end of the year, which is monsoon season, the small waves are nice for surfing.

Then take a stop at Chendor. There is a famous shop which sells Keropok Lekor. Don’t miss this.

Kemasik Beach is just stunning. White sands, big rocks, a fishing village, and fishing boats combined make for a great view of the beach.

Pantai Tanjung Jara is another beach with stunning views. It is a long beach with big rocks.

Pantai Batu Burok is a long beach in Kuala Terengganu. With such big waves during the monsoon season, this is a best place to surf. The beach is near the city so it is crowded all day long.

Kuala Terengganu is the capital city of the state of Terengganu. Take a visit to places such as Chinatown, Pasar Paayang, Floating Mosque, and Crystal Mosque. Don’t miss the chance to try their traditional dishes like Nasi Dagang.

I had to turn to Route 3685, followed by Route T1 to get to my destination, Setiu. Beautiful beaches are along the route. Islands such as Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang can be spotted on the main land.

Finally, I reached my destination, Kampung Mangkuk. The village is covered by coconut trees. Cows and goats can be spotted around the village. The population of cows and goats in the village are more than humans. I did enjoy the peaceful vibe of the village. I will be back one day. An amazing spot that has yet to be discovered.
