Mt. Eden Park, Auckland
7 10 Share TweetMt. Eden Park in Auckland is made from an impressive former volcano crater and offers a great view over the whole area. It’s perfectly safe to visit as it’s already a dormant volcano – you can either enjoy a nice walk uphill or take a car if you’re being lazy but once you get to the top, you’ll quickly realize that all the effort is well worth it.
Auckland is a very big city, but has also a lot of parks and green areas to relax and enjoy nature. Some of these parks are inside the city (like Albert Park or Western Park) but if you go a bit outside the city (5km south to be precise) you should really make a little walk to the Mt. Eden Park.
Mt. Eden and its former volcano is the highest natural point in the whole Auckland area and is 196m above sea level. The most impressive thing to see, is the crater of the volcano which is 50m deep. Don’t worry, this volcano isn’t active anymore (the last eruption was 15,000 years ago) and there’s no danger in visiting it.
Of course, once you’re there, you can enjoy the views in every direction of the Auckland isthmus and relax after the 20mn walk up to the hill. If you’re lazy, you can go up by car, but it’s much more interesting to walk. If the weather is clear, it’s a great opportunity to shoot with different cameras, and that’s what I did with my Horizon and Diana F+ :)
Enjoy the galleries!
