Mandore Monkey Park

India is exciting but it is wild, maybe because of its wilderness. In the Mandore Park it all comes together. The territory is huge and there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of people there. Not so many foreigners here, so you are watched like a monkey.

India is exciting but it is wild, maybe because of its wilderness. In the Mandore Park it all comes together. The territory is huge and there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of people there. Not so many foreigners here, so you are watched like a monkey. There are ancient temples and Hindi shrines, but guess what, people are living inside. Washed clothes hang from one corner of a holy sight to another on a string.

It is like looking into the living room of people…in a park. I guess these are mostly pilgrims from far away, who are only visiting, and I kind of hope so too. But people are not the only inhabitants of that park: large monkeys call it their home, too. They swing from tree to tree and temple to temple and are fed by the visitors.

There are also donkeys, but mostly because there are repairs on the way, and you need the donkeys to transport all the stones. This place is a good encounter with the true Indian society. Middle and Lower Class is coming there and some of them are really interested in you. In fact, as there is not much to sell, you can have some real conversations there without the whole commercial twist. And I saw the first and only fakirs in India there on the street, hyptnotizing a cobra with a flute. I was so very happy to see this. Of course everyone going to India has a bright fairy tale like image in his mind. And surely I was happy to have found my mind blowing fakir there.

If you want to go there to, take a cab, moto-cab or a rikscha to, but please wear no too much weight, if you take a rikscha. Or do an India-Diet. Because every pound makes the ride harder for the Rikscha-Man.
