LomoGuru: Whynotwinnipeg

His LomoHome username may sound like a tribute to the country he currently resides but aside from that patriotic fact, this guy from Canada has more than his LomoHome name to boot!

Wonderful Lomographs shot in various colors and format — those are just some of the amazing wonders we can search in his LomoHome. And with this, we feature whynotwinnipeg in our Community as this week’s LomoGuru!

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

When I think of this question, I would say that the most memorable experience in my Lomo Community would be the meeting with a bunch of film photographers through my friends. It was awesome that we all shoot film and only film! People these days often do not value film photography, but it is so cool and it is not dead yet. And in that experience, that moment in which we shared a common feeling and knowledge about film photography and Lomographic terms!

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

I would say that gelagoo is one of my really close friends. She is somewhat a soulmate through photography and Lomography as well. She is always there for me when it comes to discussing any photographical questions, ideas, and so on. Not only photography things but she also helps me understand life through photography! :) We often walk around the city and shoot photos. She was the one who encouraged me to join Lomography! And I call her to go out and take photos, and she does! She is such cool person to get to know. I just want to say thank you to gelagoo for everything she has done for me! And oh wait, her photos are AMAZING! Check them out if you are interested! :)

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

I think I will. I am so in love with photography in general, and Lomography is one way to express my photography and be able to share it with others. I simply love the Lomography’s online Community! I am always excited to know people online and also amazed that so many people are actually shooting Lomography! I am always happy to receive comments from various people coming from different countries all over the world — it is actually a neat experience!

I am hoping to have my solo exhibition in the near future but Lomography is already an online exhibition for me to share my photography with others! I definitely will be taking Lomographs and will continue to cherish the Community from the center of Canada! :)

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

Actually it is not a Lomo camera but it does take quite amazing Lomographs. It is the Yashica-D, a 1970’s TLR (Twin-Lens-Reflex) camera. I love medium format just like how other Lomo users do. Since I used my first roll of the medium format film, I have been fascinated with its magic. The results are just amazing. I have so many memories with this camera.

My memorable one would be the time I submitted a photo for the local photo club contest. My photo which was taken with the Yashica-D did not win but so many people gave me good words on that one. It is a portrait of my good friend and that photo actually came from the first roll in my life.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Stay happy! :) Whatever you do in your life, enjoy it! Photography is a fun thing to do, so enjoy. Try to not compare what you take with others because your photos are yours. You need to cherish the moment and the memories. Try different things every time you take photos. Even if you do not carry a camera every day, “see what you see,”and visualize it as a photograph. Enjoy your imagination.

And I share my favourite quote to you — "Don’t worry, be happy.”
