Can you tell us a bit about your background, and how you got started with photography?

I'm originally from Nashville and moved to NYC after college to work in photography. I spent four years at Vanity Fair and then worked at Art Department and CLM for 8 years, with Norman Jean Roy, Platon, Mary Ellen Mark and other photographers. I returned to magazines in mid-2015, and have worked at Glamour since then.

What is your role at Glamour, and in the production of the Women of the Year issue?

I am the Deputy Photo Editor at Glamour, handling features and the annual Women of the Year portfolio.

Which WOTY shoot was your favorite? Which was the most challenging?

I don't have a favorite this year - they were all incredible shoots and such inspirational women. Getting into the United Nations to photography Nadia Murad during the UN General Assembly on short notice was pretty challenging. But definitely worth the effort, as always.

What are you inspired by in your day to day at Glamour? What principles guide you?

I'm continually inspired by the women we feature in Glamour. I'm guided by a principle of striving for authentic portraiture that feels modern and true to the subject. And I'm guided by a sense of inclusion that every woman is worthy and deserves to be featured in our pages.

What was it like having the Lomo'Instant to document behind the scenes? Did it change your experience at all?

Having to switch from helping direct the shoot to stepping back and documenting it was difficult for me. But everyone on set loved seeing the camera and the fun of instant film. It was like opening a present for the photo crew every time I would bring out the camera.

Do you have any tips on using the cameras that you learned along the way?

Opening up 1-2 stops inside really makes a difference. Otherwise just have fun with it!
