   @clickiemcpete @alburnkat @tikismeekis @adash: Thank you kindly! @gauthierdumonde and @weleasewoger72: Coming from two Master Mask Makers, your support means a lot - thank you! @jean_louis_pujol: You could make a 'Pujolsprock' mask for about €1 in material costs (and quite a bit of effort!) @vici: Thank you so much, but a caution to anyone else attempting this: it's not quite as easy as it may seem. It took about an hour to create the digital mask in Adobe Fireworks, then 45 minutes experimenting with different types of plastic to print it on (I first tried really thin and super clear plastic, which I thought would be ideal, but it crinkled under the printer head, which smudged the ink all over it - tried this three times with different printer settings (less ink volume, quicker drying time, etc.), but no joy, and ended up using store-bought transparency film designed for printers, which is much thicker but less clear, with inherent lines and speckles in it that are visible in the resulting shots (but actually, they add character, which I like)), then another 30 minutes cutting the film with a modeller's knife and metal ruler to precisely 24mm wide and adjusting the length with scissors so that it was long enough at each end to tape it into the camera back securely but short enough not to interfere with the DX sensors on the left or the take-up mechanism on the right... You get the picture. As far as 'easy' is concerned, it would be easier to just buy a Sprocket Rocket! You also asked in another comment about colour variations, and yes, that would be technically possible and probably pretty cool, but given the effort this one took, I'm gonna get at least another couple of rolls out of it before I even contemplate further enhancements. Just to be clear, though, yes, I'm really happy with how it turned out, and GREATLY APPRECIATE your positive support...! Thank you all, my friends! :-)

    what about printing on colored paper, then cutting out (maybe a hole punch); skip the camera, place the frame in a flatbed scanner with photo?

    great idea: sounds like my apple-tattoo effort. trying different types of pencil and ink and whatever. then starting to tattoo but touch the apple somewhere and all the colour is smudged but you can not remove it. so let´s start again with a new apple. i needed three i think and in the end i didn´t want to throw it away and was thinking about how to conserve this damn apple. had no idea so it was in the fridge for a week until my girlfriend said: why you keep this apple. you got pictures of it and they will last.
