'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000)

Chairs for the cast and crew. Note the Nicholas Cage one at the back. He was a co-producer, and appeared on set for just a day or two. Seemed like a regular sorta hombre to me. John Malkovich, on the other hand, was a really phoney, stuck-up asshole, playing the big movie star even when the cameras weren't rolling, whereas Willem Dafoe was a genuinely nice guy - really humble and approachable. And British comic actor Eddie Izzard was a riot! I shared a few pints with him the night of the pre-production party - it seemed no one else in the crew (mostly French, Belgians and Luxembourgers) knew who the hell he was, so he was delighted when I recognized him and was happy to sit around chatting over beers with me for an hour or so. Ah, my fleeting moments of fame ;-)

I bet that an evening with Eddie was a riot. I love his stand-up and I can't think of a movie or TV show of his that I haven't liked so far. So Malkovich didn't have to strain to much for his Being John Malkovich part?

I love your story about Eddie Izzard!! Makes me like him even more. Some *famous* people surprise you, some don't. In my "doing whatever it is I do" work life I have had brushings with a few. Julia Roberts and Lady Gaga are both incredibly sweet and nice. And Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is one of the nicest people I've met.
